Chris Brida has been named director of development for Penn State's College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. Brida began his role on Feb. 23. He succeeds Sue Powell, who retired in January after a 38-year career with the University.

When Sue Powell walks across the University Park campus, from the landmark "The Pennsylvania State University" sign outside of Beaver Stadium to the named John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences (EMS), she passes countless efforts that are the result, at least in small part, of her 38-year career of raising funds for the University.

William Brune, distinguished professor of meteorology and atmospheric science, is a physicist whose research career has been spent understanding atmospheric chemistry, particularly how atmospheric pollutants are created and can be mitigated.

Penn State alumni of the national professional chemistry fraternity Alpha Chi Sigma have committed $1.5 million to endow scholarships in the three colleges where most of their members earned their degrees: the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, the College of Engineering, and the Eberly College of Science.

Earl "Skip" Lenker is passionate about lifelong learning. After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1956 and earning his doctorate in geosciences from Penn State in 1964, the lifelong educational journey continued.

The College of Earth and Mineral Sciences (EMS) will be raising money to support the Millennium Scholars Program on GivingTuesday, slated to begin at 6:55 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, and lasting through 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30. Early fundraising is already underway.
