The event formerly known as TOTEMS has been re-named TEEMS: Total Engagement with EMS.
Out of respect for the Totem being a Native American religious and community symbol, we have decided to re-title our event with an acronym that is aligned with the goals and outcomes of the experience. The geologic Obelisk, constructed near Old Main lawn by EMS in 1896, serves as an enduring symbol of the college and the educational foundation it provides.
The construct, goals and outcomes of the event shall remain the same.
TEEMS is a pre-semester program specifically designed for first-year students at the University Park campus who are new to the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences.
TOTEMS is our signature EMS program aimed at helping incoming students connect with upper-level student mentors, faculty / staff and alumni before fall classes even begin!
TEEMS 2020 was offererd as a hybrid event with an interactive online component followed up with in-person activities as students begin to arrive on campus for fall. All incoming, first-year EMS students at University Park are encouraged to participate.
We are working diligently to create a meaningful and engaging experience that will maintain the health and safety of all students, faculty and staff while building the personal connections that distinguish the EMS community. Even though we are physically distanced by six feet, we are committed to working hard this semester to build a close EMS community to help you find success during these challenging times.
Be ready to ask questions, make new friends and actively participate in sessions designed to facilitate getting to know dozens of current students, faculty, staff and alumni. We want you to make lasting connections and become familiar with all the resources available to you in EMS.
The virtual portion of TOTEMS was held August 15-16. The in-person events were held prior to classes beginning on August 24.
Registration is closed for 2020.
