Affiliate groups are recognized for outstanding programming in each of the following categories: Engagement with Young Alumni Award; Professional Development Award; Fundraising Award; Scholarship Development Award; Ned Brokloff Award for Alumni Association Affiliate Group Innovation; Joint Activity Award; Outstanding Service Project Award; Student Interaction Award; Membership Award Below; and the Fellowship and Networking Award. Below are the awards won by GEMS.
2020 Recipients of Penn State Alumni Association Joint Activity Award
This award is presented to two or more groups that have worked collaboratively on a program or event. By working in concert with each other, groups are able to reach a broader and more diverse audience. Programs and events should be unique and non-traditional and show quantifiable results.
2018 Recipient of Penn State Alumni Association Student Interaction Award
This award is given to any affiliate group that has distinguished itself through outstanding student support and interaction. A program grant of $500 was received for the board’s key role in the development of the EMS Alumni/Student Mentoring Program.
2015 Recipient of Penn State Alumni Association Student Interaction Award
This award is given to any affiliate group that has distinguished itself through outstanding student support and interaction. A program grant of $500 was received for the board’s key role in the student-run Earth and Mineral Sciences Exhibition (EMEX).
2014 Recipient of Penn State Alumni Association New/Innovative Event or Program Award
This award is given to any affiliate group that has distinguished itself through an exceptional new and innovative program or event. A program grant of $500 was received for Millennium Science Complex Showcase Event.
2013 Recipient of Penn State Alumni Association Student Interaction Award
This award is given to any affiliate group that has distinguished itself through outstanding student support and interaction. A program grant of $500 was received for the board’s key role in the student-run Earth and Mineral Sciences Exhibition (EMEX).
2011 Recipient of Penn State Alumni Association Student Interaction Award
This award is given to any affiliate group that has distinguished itself through outstanding student support and interaction. A program grant of $500 was received for alumni interaction with students, faculty, and staff of the College during a 3 day orientation program called Total Orientation To Earth and Mineral Sciences (TOTEMS).
2008 Recipient of Penn State Alumni Association New/Innovative Event or Program Award
This award is given to any affiliate group that has distinguished itself through an exceptional new and innovative program or event. A program grant of $500 was received for the creation of the bi-annual GEMS Seminar series to highlight the relevance of each department to business and society.
2007 Recipient of Penn State Alumni Association Membership Award
This award is given to any affiliate group that has distinguished itself through an exceptional membership program that supports the membership campaign of the Alumni Association. A program grant of $500 was received for the GEMS Diamond Award recipient being honored with a life time membership to the Penn State Alumni Association.
