Every child can recall their first trip to a museum and the sense of wonder and excitement that comes from laying eyes on the real-life remnants of a dinosaur or the preserved artifacts of our ancestors. For a group of students taking a course on the impacts of colonization on science museums, that spark was ignited by all the work that went into the completion of those museum exhibits.

A wide variety of Penn State museums and special galleries will be open to the public during the spring “Night at the Museums” event, scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. on April 23.

The College of Earth and Mineral Sciences (EMS) Museum & Art Gallery has announced the opening of a new student-curated exhibit titled “Through Different Eyes: Industrial Worlds by Women Artists.” The opening reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22.

A team of researchers including Penn State scientists provided the new evidence that significantly revises the prior understanding of mastodon's evolutionary history.

For the second year in a row, fourth graders in the State College Area School District have been learning about the earth sciences with the help of geosciences experts in the Penn State College of Earth and Mineral Sciences (EMS).

The world was mesmerized by Colossal Biosciences’ recent announcement that they had cloned dire wolf pups, a species of canine that’s been extinct for more than 10,000 years. While experts have debated the “de-extinction” of these wolves, which are far more genetically similar to living grey wolf than to the original dire wolf, one thing is certainly true: An undergraduate student at Penn State recently catalogued a jawbone from one of Pennsylvania’s few dire wolf fossils. 

Night at the Museums — a biannual event that offers students, faculty, staff and the local community an opportunity to explore free of charge various campus museums and galleries during extended evening hours — will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on May 1 at the University Park campus.

The Penn State Museum Consortium will hold its fall 2024 "Night at the Museums" on Thursday, Sept. 12. Participating museums and galleries on the University Park campus will be open extended hours from 4 to 8 p.m.
