Sludge formation is quite a nuisance in many FGD processes. You have thus been asked to make a preliminary evaluation of two competing dry FGD processes and recommend to your management ONE of the following three courses of action:
(a) Proceed with a detailed design study of the following scheme:
2NaHCO3 > Na2CO3 + CO2 + H2O
Na2CO3 + SO2 + 0.5O2 > Na2SO4 + CO2
(b) Proceed with a detailed design study of the following scheme:
CaCO3 > CaO + CO2
CaO + SO2 + 0.5O2 > CaSO4
(c) Proceed with a detailed design study of both schemes, because neither appears to be clearly advantageous.
Evaluate the
thermodynamics , kinetics and elementary economics of these two sulfur capture options.lrr3@psu.edu (revised 10/18/98)
