Greetings!
If you are reading this, then you are interested in learning more about the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences Student Council. Our goal is to serve the College and the undergraduate students by increasing the communication between all the levels within the College of EMS. Below is just some information about our Council and how to get involved.
What or Who is the Student Council?
The Student Council acts as a valuable committee, focused on providing the College with events and programs in order strengthen the ties between students and faculty, and to provide a more intellectual and social atmosphere within the College. The Council is dedicated to making improvements, wherever needed, as voiced through the undergraduate students of the College.
Our Purpose:
To provide a vital link between students, administration, and community in an attempt to enrich the intellectual and social atmosphere of the college. This is achieved through programs, speakers, workshops and services. The council is dedicated to making improvements, wherever needed, as voiced through the students of the college.
How do I become active in the Student Council?
Any registered undergraduate student in the College of EMS shall be eligible for active membership in the Council upon attendance of two consecutive meetings within a semester. Members declared as active upon conclusion of previous semester, return the following semester as active members.

Although, you don't have to be active to be in the Student Council to become involved, you can act as an "associate" to the Student Council. "Associate" members of the Student Council again have to be registered undergraduate students of the College of EMS, and are members by definition who aid in furthering the purposes of the Student Council but are not eligible for active membership because they do not fill the requirements discussed above.
How can I hold an office within the Student Council?
Only full-time, officially registered undergraduate students who meet membership and position requirements, may hold appointed or elected office. Offices within the student council include President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Advertising Chair, Social Chair, Faculty Senator, and Webmaster.
How often do we meet?
The Council meets at least five times each semester, at least once every month. Meetings occur on Wednesday nights at 5:45 pm, with pizza served beforehand at 5:30.

All meetings are open to the student body of the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. Advanced notice of at least 48 hours will be given for all meetings. It should be noted that any member of the faculty, staff, or student body can attend Student Council meets and present to it, any matter which concerns student welfare. As a result, the Council must take action on matters presented within thirty days thereafter.
How can the Student Council benefit me?
By joining the Student Council you will benefit yourself and act as a representative for your department, and you will be interacting with all other levels in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. By joining the Council you obtain a sense of responsibility, as well as an understanding of just what goes on in the entire College.

Remember, the Council is not all politics, we are also dedicated to creating a social environment for our members. Here are just some of the fun events the Council puts on individually or with the entire College: EMEX (The College of Earth and Mineral Sciences Open House), Tubing Socials, Bowling Nights, Pizza Nights, Broomball, and more!
