Faculty Excellence Awards and Grants

A variety of competitive awards in support of research are presented annually to faculty within the College.


Deike Research Grant
Proposals due: February 15th of each year, unless the 15th is on a weekend then it would be due the following Monday.

This award is intended to promote innovative research of high scholarly merit and is made annually to a tenure-track or fixed term faculty member. The award recipient will receive $50,000 from the George H. Deike, Jr. Research Endowment Fund. Each EMS department and each of the College's interdisciplinary research institutes may submit one proposal. Miller Faculty Fellowship
Nominations due: February 15th of each year, unless the 15th is on a weekend then it would be due the following Monday.

The Miller Faculty Fellowship is to support faculty of exceptional creativity, who propose highly innovative approaches to major contemporary challenges in the earth, energy, and material sciences. The award recipient will receive $50,000 from the E. Willard and Ruby S. Miller Faculty Fellowship Fund.  The funds are to be used primarily for graduate student support. Each EMS department may submit one nomination. Wilson Research Initiation Grant
Proposals due: February 15th of each year, unless the 15th is on a weekend then it would be due the following Monday.

The Wilson Initiation Grant is intended to jump start the research of a new tenure track faculty member. The award recipient will receive $10,000 from the Wilson Endowment Fund. Wilson Award for Excellence in Research
Nominations due: February 15th of each year, unless the 15th is on a weekend then it would be due the following Monday.

This award honors a tenure-track faculty member who has excelled in research and expresses the gratitude and appreciation of the College for their achievements. The award is given in recognition of scholarly or creative excellence represented by a single contribution or a series of contributions around a coherent theme. Departments rank nominees in priority order.  The recipient shall be honored with a recognition memento and a monetary award at the Wilson Awards Banquet held each spring.  This award is administered through the Dean's Office, 116 Deike Building. <<Award Guildelines and Past Recipients>>


Wilson Travel Grant
Proposals due: Proposals may be submitted anytime and will be reviewed monthly.

The Wilson Travel Funds are intended to facilitate faculty travel associated with enhancing research and scholarship opportunities, including, for example; to develop new research initiatives, to disseminate research in key venues, and to represent the department/college/university at meetings of important professional organizations. Award recipients will receive up to $4,000 from the Matthew J.
