Wilson Award for Excellence in Research

In pursuit of its mission to seek and disseminate knowledge, the College promotes excellence in all aspects of research. Since 1989, the Wilson Research Award honors EMS faculty who have excelled in research and expresses the gratitude and appreciation of the College for their achievements.

The award is given in recognition of scholarly or creative excellence represented by a single contribution or a series of contributions around a coherent theme.  The contribution may be original basic research; it may represent the application of knowledge in the creation of a process or device useful to society; the contribution may be in any area.

The award, provided from the Matthew and Anne C. Wilson Fund, consists of a bronze medallion in a cherry display case and a $2,000 award.  A committee chaired by the Associate Dean for Graduate Education and Research will review nominations.

Criteria and Eligibility

Members of the College faculty, as defined by the College Constitution are eligible.

The award will be made solely on the basis of scholarly or creative achievement.  The achievement for which the candidate is to be honored shall have occurred or culminated during the five years preceding the nomination for the award.

Nomination Procedure

The Associate Dean for Graduate Education and Research will invite nominations from department heads and institute directors in all units of the College. Suitable biographical data must accompany each nomination.  Of primary importance is a detailed description of the achievement itself together with documented evidence ( viz . letters) which substantiates the claim of the national or international importance of achievement.  Nominations received by the deadline (February 15) will be assigned to the review committee.  The committee will review the nomination materials, obtain additional information, if needed, and make one of the following recommendations to the Dean:

Awards Ceremony

The award will be presented at the Wilson Awards Banquet held each spring.
