Earth and Mineral Sciences Museum and Art Gallery Accepted Into Museum Assessment Program (MAP)
The Earth and Mineral Sciences Museum & Art Gallery is pleased to announce their acceptance into the American Association of Museums' Museum Assessment Program (MAP) for a 2010 Institutional Assessment. The assessment is a collaborative process between the EMS Museum, a Peer Reviewer, and MAP. The EMS Museum will assemble an Assessment Team comprised of members of the college, university, and community to provide input during the assessment. The Peer Reviewer, underwritten by MAP, will visit the EMS Museum, meet with College administration, museum staff, and team members, and write an assessment report with recommendations, MAP will also provide resources and knowledge of current standards and best practices recognized by national and international museum associations. The assessment period runs from January through 30 November 2010.
Acceptance into MAP is acknowledgment by AAM of the EMS Museum's continued work towards recognition as an institution which employs standards and best practices of the museum field to its entire operation including mission, governance, collections stewardship, interpretation, and accessibility. The Institutional Assessment is a step by the EMS Museum toward recognition of excellence and official Accreditation by the American Association of Museums. The EMS Museum & Art Gallery serves audiences at PSU, State College and the broader central Pennsylvania area.
