     Our August meeting is planned for Wednesday the 19th at 7:30 p.m., in Earth & Engineering Sciences Building on the west side of Penn State's University Park campus in State College, PA. Driving directions and maps are avaialble at the bottom of this home page. Watch this web site for additional information.
     6:30 to 7:30 p.m.: Social hour, refreshments in the lobby
     7:30 to 8:00 p.m.: announcements; door prize drawings
     about 8:00 p.m.: featured program

     August 27, 2009, is the 150th anniversary of Col. Edwin Drake's well striking oil near Titusville, PA. We will welcome Dr. John Harper, Chief of Pennsylvania Geological Survey's Oil, Gas and Subsurface Services Section, who will speak about the history of petroleum in Pennsylvania. Watch this space for details.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS and PARKING for Earth & Engineering Sciences Building meetings (Driving directions for the 2009 Nittany Gem & Mineral Show are here). After 5:00 p.m. and on weekends, free parking is available immediately across the street from the building. From North Atherton St. (Business Rt. 322) between College Avenue and Park Avenue, turn west (toward the golf course) off North Atherton at the traffic signal marked "White Course Drive." Go past the parking attendant's booth, follow the curve to the left, and just before the stop sign, turn right into the parking lot. The building entrance is a little beyond the center of the lot.
