Fixed-Term and Research Faculty

Mission Statement

In Spring 2004, revisions to the EMS College constitution called for the
establishment of a standing Fixed-Term & Research Faculty Advisory
Committee (FTRFAC). This committee provides avenues for the fixed-term and research faculty to serve as a group in discharging the aims and objectives of the College, and to submit proposed actions through appropriate channels to the College and University administration. In short, the FTRFAC serves as the primary fixed-term and research faculty liaison to the Dean.

The Fixed-Term & Research Faculty Advisory Committee (FTRFAC) is composed of representatives from each academic department, institute and
alliance in EMS. Committee members serve three-year terms that are staggered to ensure institutional continuity.

Fixed-Term & Research Faculty Promotion Guidelines

In Spring 2005, the College of EMS established a new policy regarding the appointment, evaluation and promotion of its fixed-term and research faculty. This policy standardizes ranks and provides a promotion track for FT&R faculty who would like to make a career of their positions in the College.

The College policy left the details of the promotion review process up to the departments and institutes. These details can be found in the links below:

Survey of FT&R Faculty

In 2005, the FTRFAC redeployed a survey of the College's FT&R faculty that was originally conducted in 1995 by a task-force committee chaired by David DiBiase. Looking at the results from the two surveys side by side provided an excellent opportunity to identify improvements made over the ten years and the remaining challenges.
