  • Materials Science and Engineering Professor Receives 2012 Bingham Medal

    Materials Science and Engineering Professor, Ralph Colby will be awarded the 2012 Bingham Medal from the Society of Rheology.  The award is named after Eugene C. Bingham, a pioneer in the field who coined the term 'rheology' and gave the world the Bingham Plastic Model.  The formal award ceremony is at the 2012 Society of Rheology meeting, which owing to the International Congress being held this year, shall be held 10-14 February, 2013 in Pasadena, California.  Ralph hopes that many Penn State friends can attend this meetning to help him celebrate his award.  <<MORE>>

  • Klima to Serve as Interim Head of EME

    Mark Klima, associate professor of mineral processing and geo-environmental engineering, will serve as Interim Head of the John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering upon Yaw Yeboah's departure from Penn State.  Mark's current position is Associate Head of EME in charge of undergraduate programs.  <<MORE>>

  • Kubicki Selected as 2012 ICS Faculty Fellow

    James Kubicki, associate professor of geosciences, was selected as a 2012 ICS Faculty Fellow for his project entitled, "Development of a Reactive Force Field for Simulating Metal-Oxide Nucleation and Nanoparticles."  The ICS (Institute of CyberScience) Faculty Fellows Program is designed to support ICS faculty in their development of interdisciplinary collaborations for cyber-enabled discovery and innovation.  Dr. Kubicki's work will be showcased on the ICS web site.  On behalf of ICS, the Office of the Vice-President for Research and Dean of the Graduate School and EMS, please accept our congratulations on your achievement.  <<MORE>>

  • Board of Trustees Meets; President Erickson's Remarks

    Susan Brantley, distinguished professor of geosciences and director of the Earth and Environmental Systems Institute, was elected to the National Academy of Sciences as one of 84 new members and 21 foreign associates from 15 countries. Brantley is an inspiring teacher, researcher and mentor, and her work focuses on the measurement and prediction of the rates of natural processes, in particular, the effect of microbial life on mineral reactivity.  <<MORE>>
