Sloan Scholars Program

The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation provides funding for under-represented students to pursue doctorates in mathematics, science, and engineering. The Sloan Scholars Program specifically targets African Americans, Hispanic Americans and Native Americans. All must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Students receiving Sloan foundation grants may use the money to pay for professional travel, research, equipment, and books and to cover many other needs during their doctoral studies. The amount of each grant is $30,000.

Sloan Scholars must have passed their comprehensive exams to enter the program, and each Sloan Scholar must have an approved mentor in his/her academic field. Faculty members who have proven track records in graduating underrepresented students from their doctoral programs are selected each year to mentor incoming fellows.
