to images which
show a solid angle of
steradians;
that is, everything
in all directions.

Images on this site which are presented as jpegs can be seen in any browser. Often these will be in the form of equirectangular images (which transform the angles into a rectangular plot, 360 x 180 degrees). The left and right edges wrap; the zenith becomes the top edge, and the nadir becomes the bottom edge. So, those two points are transformed into lines. Sometimes other representations will supplement the equirectangular images. The jpeg images are available by clicking on the thumbnail images in the list below.

When you are in the document looking at the jpeg images, you can click on one of them and obtain a navigable image. Navigable images can only be seen if you have installed the latest version of Quicktime, which is available for free from  Apple’s Quicktime site .
